Bill Clinton

William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton (1946 - ) was the first Democrat elected to a second term since Franklin Roosevelt. His administration was marked by economic prosperity, including the lowest unemployment rate in modern history and a budget surplus.

Clinton left office with a 66% approval rating, higher than any outgoing president since World War II. Following his presidency, Clinton founded the William J. Clinton Foundation, to raise awareness for various causes, and after the 2010 Haiti earthquake teamed with George W. Bush to form the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

Below are some quotes from President Clinton, as well as videos and links to sources with additional information and reference.

"So tonight, let us resolve to build that bridge to the 21st century, to meet our challenges and protect our values. Let us build a bridge to help our parents raise their children, to help young people and adults to get the education and training they need, to make our streets safer, to help Americans succeed at home and at work, to break the cycle of poverty and dependence, to protect our environment for generations to come, and to maintain our world leadership for peace and freedom. Let us resolve to build that bridge."
President Bill Clinton, accepting the Democratic Party's nomination for his second term on August 29, 1996

"We cannot build our own future without helping others to build theirs."
Final State of the Union address, January 27, 2000

"Sometimes I feel like a fire hydrant looking at a pack of dogs."
At an event commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Department of the Interior, March 4, 1999

"There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America."
First inaugural address, January 20, 1993

"The road to tyranny, we must never forget, begins with the destruction of the truth."
Dedication of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, University of Connecticut, October 15, 1995

"The new rage is to say that the government is the cause of all our problems, and if only we had no government, we'd have no problems. I can tell you, that contradicts evidence, history, and common sense."
Speaking to students at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida, April 3, 1995

"It is time to heal America. And so we must say to every American: Look beyond the stereotypes that blind us. We need each other. All of us - we need each other. We don't have a person to waste. And yet for too long politicians have told the most of us that are doing all right that what's really wrong with America is the rest of us. Them. Them, the minorities. Them, the liberals. Them, the poor. Them, the homeless. Them, the people with disabilities. Them, the gays. We've gotten to where we've nearly "them"ed ourselves to death. Them and them and them.

But this is America. There is no them; there's only us. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice, for all."
Addressing the Democratic National Convention, July 16, 1992
